Well done to the six communities in East and South County Galway who have completed their local biodiversity plans! We are proud to publish them on our Galway Community Biodiversity Training page and hope they will inspire other communities to follow in their footsteps. These plans are a culmination of the Community Biodiversity Training which Galway Rural Development contracted Burrenbeo Trust to undertake for 6 communities in Co. Galway. We adapted a community-led approach to the training so that communities could work together to create a biodiversity plan that was based on the principles and priorities of the people who lived locally. The biodiversity plans are truly theirs, written by their community, for their community. The proposed actions in these plans to protect and enhance nature and wildlife are exceptionally diverse which reflects the interests of the groups and the local needs or issues identified.
Burrenbeo would like to thank each community for their hard work and dedication in creating these plans and wish them luck in putting their plans into action. We would also like to thank Marie Mannion, Galway County Heritage Officer, for covering the design and print costs of the plans.
