Our Supporters
Burrenbeo is very grateful to all our supporters. As an independent charity with no core funding, your support is essential to our existence.
Our Funding
Our funding comes from:
- Grants from statutory bodies and charitable foundations (2021: 24%). In 2021 we applied for 17 different grants. We were successful with 12 applications. Grants ranged from €€400 to €45,000.
- Membership (2021: 15%). Membership fees continue to be a highly important income stream for Burrenbeo Trust.
- Events (2021: 6%). Burrenbeo Trust runs various events through the year that have an entry cost such as walks, talks, Winterage Weekend, Burren in Bloom etc. These all raise necessary funds for the Trust but unfortunately many were cancelled or held online thus resulting in a reduced income for 2021.
- Donations and Fundraising (2021: 24%). Various businesses or individuals supported specific programmes within the Trust during 2021 and our newest fundraiser the Burren Pine Project is not only a positive step for local biodiversity but bringing in much needed funds for the Trust.
- Training and education courses (2021: 30%). Burrenbeo Trust held a training course for teachers bringing place-based education to the classroom. This year the Trust also began to work towards a national roll out of its education programme, the Heritage Keepers.
- Merchandise (2021: 1%). The sale of Burrenbeo field guides through local businesses and the sale of Field Guides, Burren cards, Burren Insight magazines and our Áitbheo tool kits through our online shop found on our website. This is lower than usual due to many local businesses who stock our merchandise being closed during lockdowns.
A massive thank you to all our members and friends that have been part of this journey.

Other
Support comes in many ways. Over the years, Burrenbeo Trust have been hugely honoured by the generosity of people. With free venues, free speakers fees and much more. Whilst the list is endless, we would like to give a special shout out to the following:
- Martin Kiely for donating so many photographs to the Trust from our different events that has contributed hugely to our PR look including this website.
- Michael O’Donoghue for hosting our Winter Tea Talks in the Tubber Hall
- Gordon D’Arcy for leading our annual Dawn Chrous walk as well as leading children’s art workshop during the Burren Winterage Weekend
