Burrenbeo Trust Centre
Tools and skills for learning and teaching about local places
DES approved 5 day course
WHEN: 2nd-6th July 2018
(Kinvara Co.Galway & various locations across the Burren)
The objective of these 5-day training courses is to provide primary schoolteachers, other educators, and people with an interest in place-based learning with some simple strategies and resources through which they can effectively utilise the learning resource of their local environment for their audiences while also exploring the beautiful Burren. This course is based on ten years experience of ‘place based learning’ by the landscape charity, Burrenbeo Trust, through which scores of teachers and over a 1000 schoolchildren have connected with their own locality as part of highly interactive and experiential heritage programmes.
These summer training courses will cover strands of history, geography and science subjects. Specific themes which will be explored in the field and classroom will include landscape, built heritage, cultural heritage, biodiversity and conservation. On completion of this course, participants will have the skills and resources which will allow them to deliver an effective place based learning programme to their students or integrate place-based learning more when connecting with their audiences.

This is a great course, don’t just take our word for it, here is some feedback we received in the past:
Thorough enjoyed all aspects of the course, particularly the outdoor activities. Loved the variety. All presenters were well informed and prepared. Guest speakers and experts were fantastic. Everything was well planned and strong connection and linkage between all elements of the course. I loved it all! Well done to everyone involved.
We really enjoyed the whole experience, learnt lots, and loved getting to meet everyone involved and hear their stories and enthusiasm for teaching and learning. On a personal level I saw and enjoyed the history of the Burren and all the fantastic efforts made by all involved to conserve that history. We came away knowing more than you would ever learn in a leaflet or book, and will be able to share that knowledge with friends and family, and bring it into the work place to follow some of your programme tailored to our own area and hopefully some days out in the Burren and Kinvara also. It is a thing that will stay with you for life, and all on our own doorstep.
