All roads lead to the Burren this October with the return of the Burren Winterage Weekend, an annual celebration of the ancient and unique practice of winter grazing in the Burren. This farming tradition that has shaped and defined the Burren in every way, is the inspiration behind the events that are being organised between 26th and 29th Oct this month.
Some of the key events due to take place at the annual Burren Winterage Weekend 2023 are now open for booking through the link above. Events will include the Burren Winterage School on the theme of ‘Farming and Fire’ (Fri 27th Oct), Farming for Nature Gathering and Awards ceremony (Sat 28th Oct), Herdsman’s Walk with Burren Farmer Patrick McCormack (Sat 28th Oct) and the Community Cattle Drive and Burren Food Fayre (Sunday 29th Oct). Some more exciting events will also be added to the programme in the days to come. Discounts apply to Burrenbeo Members for all Burrenbeo Trust coordinated events during this weekend.
The Burren Winterage festival marks this inflection point in the farming year by celebrating the bounty that farming – at its best – can deliver: Nutritious food, rich biodiversity, diverse landscapes, healthy water and soils and thriving rural communities. Farmers from all over Ireland – beef, sheep, dairy and tillage and horticultural – are central to the weekend of celebration, learning, debate and fun, culminating in a very special communal cattle drive to the hills of the Burren.
Places are limited for all in-person events and will require pre-booking. Discounts apply for Burrenbeo Members. More information available on www.burrenwinterage.com
