Would you like to begin your summer this year by bearing witness to the most magical concert of the natural world ?
As early light fills the skies in the Burren this first Sunday of May, we invite you to join us for the Dawn Chorus Walk, an excellent opportunity to listen, identify, differentiate and appreciate our various songbirds under the expert guidance of Gordon D’Arcy.
Gordon D’Arcy has been living and working in the Burren for over 30 years. An environmental author, artist and educationalist; he has written three books on aspects of the Burren, most recently ‘The Breathing Burren’ (2016). His interest in birds stems from his childhood and he is the author of several books on the subject. Gordon teaches nature appreciation to children under the Heritage in Schools scheme and Irish Studies to students at the Burren College of Art. Birdsong identification is a speciality of Gordon’s, cultivated over many years of experience. For those who might be interested, this year Gordon has also designed and illustrated a poster dedicated to Ireland’s songbirds which will be for sale at the Dawn Chorus.
Start: The specific start location for the walk will be sent to Burrenbeo members in the week before the walk.
Please note that no dogs are allowed on any of the Burrenbeo walks.
We recommend suitable footwear, such as waterproof walking boots and appropriate clothing for possible wet, blustery weather. High-vis vests are recommended. Please ensure you read the walk risk assessment before attending. You will be asked to indicate that you have read this when signing in on the day. The walk risk assessment can be viewed here.
