Burrenbeo Trust’s Áitbheo training programme that has been so successful in the primary and secondary schools around the Burren is for the first time being made available to the grown-ups in the community. We are very excited to deliver this training with the support of Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) as a part of their ‘Clare Community Biodiversity Training Programme’. Resulting from an open call for applications to all community groups around County Clare, fifteen groups that have been selected are from Clarecastle, Ballynacally, Connolly, Kilmihil, Broadford, Kilkishen, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Ballyvaughan, Corofin, Lisdoonvarna, Ruan, Spanish Point, Miltown Malbay, Kilkee and Doonbeg. The training will take place over March and April in four locations; Ennis, Kilkishen, Miltown Malbay and Lisdoonvarna.
The programme will facilitate the different communities to learn and share knowledge of the natural, cultural and built heritage of their local places with a specific emphasis on biodiversity. It will also support the communities in developing action plans for their area and make available any specific skills training they need to develop and implement these action plans. It is anticipated that all the action plans resulting from this training programme will be showcased to the wider public in an exhibition in September of this year.
At the helm of this exciting new venture are; Mary Dillon, the Áitbheo Community Programme manager, Gráinne Barron, the Áitbheo Programme facilitator as well as consultant ecologist, Janice Fuller.
