The Burren is one of the most researched areas in Ireland. All this information leads to a fuller picture of how the region can be sustainably managed.
The traditions of learning in the Burren date back for hundreds of years, with the Ó Dálaigh Bardic school at Finavarra and the O’Davoren Law school at Cahermacnaghten from 1500 onwards. This tradition continues to this day with students from all over Ireland and the world, researching and learning in the Burren in a wide range of disciplines.
Although hard to keep up to date on all the research that exists on the Burren, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher have compiled a research archive which includes reference material and reference lists on research conducted on the Burren. The reference materials section is divided into three categories; Geology, Archaeology and Ecology and you can access a collection of articles and reports. The reference lists section is divided into five categories; Burren Geology and Caves, General Interest Geology and maps relating to the Burren, Archaeology, Ecology and a Booklist. The research archive also includes a series of links to material available in the Clare County Library.
