This Heritage Week join landscape charity Burrenbeo Trust for two great events to get out exploring and enjoying the Burren. On Wednesday the 22nd of August, families with children can take part in a ‘Burren Wild Child’ event in Carron in the heart of the Burren, while on Saturday the 25th of August, adults can get involved in an active conservation day and find out more about the ongoing work of the Burrenbeo Conservation.
The theme of this year’s Heritage Week is ‘Share a story, make a connection’ and both of the Burrenbeo events will include sharing of stories about the Burren’s built, natural and cultural heritage.
The ‘Burren Wild Child’ event will see children take part in fun and interactive activities where they will learn to explore the natural, cultural and built heritage of the Burren’s hedgerows and limestone pavements through games, scavenger hunts & much more. The aim of this event is to get children enthused by the Burren and spending time outdoors exploring. Starting at 2pm and meeting at the NUIG research station in Carron, this event is free of charge and most suitable for 8-12 year olds.
Stories of the conservation work which has been carried out by the Burrenbeo Conservation Volunteers will feature on the Burrenbeo Conservation Volunteers Open Day which will be held in Ballyvaughan from 1.30-5pm. On the day participants will meet the friendly volunteer committee, chat to some of our local conservation experts and have a go at some of the current projects. From butterflies and bats to walls, scrub and archaeology, the Burrenbeo Conservation Volunteers are involved in various projects, some of them working with other local groups, to achieve impressive results in the Burren. This event is open to all – if you are an existing volunteer come along and bring a friend, if you have never volunteered before come along, bring a friend and make new friends! Places are limited and must be booked by emailing [email protected].
