Kinvara Tidy Towns | Kinvara Tidy Towns and our Environmental groups Kinvara Ballinderreen Tree Gang, Kinvara Earth keepers and Kinvara & District Sustainable Energy group are delighted to share that we have been nominated by Galway County Council for the national Pride of place awards for Biodiversity and Climate action. We are being adjudicated on Friday September 26th at 9.25am in the Community centre (20 mins), all are welcome to attend. Kinvara Tidy Towns and village has recently become a Sustainable Development Goals champion for the village. We aim to start our education and promotion of SDGs in a series of social media posts during SDG week (20 - 29th September 2024) and promote our biodiversity and climate action plans at the community sustainable energy event planned on September 29th (follow social media for further detail) Launch of Energy Master Plan: Kinvara and district Sustainable Energy Community have been working on a master plan for our area. During the last 10 months we have held a public meeting to inform the community about the importance of reducing our home energy and of grants available to assist in this. We also held a Drop in energy advice clinic and a one to one discussion with our Energy Consultant Laurence O Reilly. Our funding for the above was granted by SEAI and we would like to thank Galway County Council for assisting with cash flowing the grant. The Climate Action Office in Galway Co Co also grant aided towards the project. Our work included analysing CSO data relating to local use of public transport and home heating options and we also carried out a total of 10 BERs on local housing which confirmed the CSO data. The next step is the most interesting as it will involve coming up with solutions that will assist in reducing our carbon emissions as a community. We would love to see as many of you as possible at this upcoming event on Saturday 28th of September in the Community Centre from 12 to 2pm. Our mentor Orla Nic Suibhne will organise a number of electric vehicles to be brought along for this event and all your questions will be encouraged. If you would like to join our group email us at [email protected]. | |

Kinvara Ballindereen Tree Gang | Tree-minding meitheals with the KBTree Gang: Every few weeks, a group of us visit one of our mini-forests to tend to our young saplings in Ballycleary and Funshin More. The trees in Ballycleary,(just 5 minutes’ drive from Kinvara), require a lot of after-care, such as mulching or trampling of weeds, as we are trialling the Miyawaki method there. Volunteers are always welcome to come for an hour ortwo. If interested, please contact 0872279071 to hear of our next meitheal or to join the Volunteer Whatsapp. You can follow us on FB/Insta @KBtreegang, but we tend to only announce big planting days there.
