Meet at Gravel dump next to the NUIG Field Station at Carron (OS 51 R288992)
Join us on Sunday 1st January 2017 to welcome in the New Year by walking the Carron Loop over Termon Hill. Walk registration will start at 1pm for a prompt 1.30pm walk start – we will be starting promptly to ensure that everyone can complete the walk in daylight since we expect it will take around 3 hours. The meeting point – the Gravel dump next to the NUIG Field Station at Carron (OS 51 R288992) is marked on a google map here.
This a challenging walk which will require an average to good level of fitness – while the climb is not particularly steep, the downhill section will be quite difficult in wet conditions and will require a level of confidence walking on limestone and difficult terrain. In return for the effort, this is a wonderful walk which will reward us with some amazing Burren views including the Glen of Clab, Temple Cronan church and two holy wells and on a clear day we will glimpse Galway Bay and the Bens of Connemara.
You will need good walking boots or shoes, warm waterproof clothes, hats gloves etc. In addition you may want to bring along a hot drink and snacks to keep up your energy levels. The walk is open to everyone. However, it is free for Burrenbeo Trust Members and a donation of €10 is suggested from non-members. In case of bad weather which may affect the walk please check our website or Facebook page for the latest updates. For more information please email [email protected] or phone 091 638096.
