Burrenbeo Conservation Volunteers

An active community that works towards the sustainable management of the Burren by addressing key conservation issues and needs in this special place

Would you like to take an active role in conservation management of Burren heritage?

We are a passionate, hands-on community group dedicated to protecting the Burren’s unique landscape and heritage.

Get involved with the BCVs

The Burrenbeo Conservation Volunteers group was set up in 2010 by the Burrenbeo Trust and is made up of people from all walks of life who care deeply about the Burren. While we operate under the Burrenbeo Trust for insurance and administration support, we are guided by a voluntary committee made up of local community members.

New volunteers are always welcome! Whether you are local, new to the area, or just passing through – if you care about nature, heritage, or just want to spend some time outdoors, we would love to have you involved.

What the BCVs do

Our volunteers take part in a wide range of practical conservation work, guided by experts and coordinated by the Burrenbeo Trust. Volunteering with the BCVs isn’t just about protecting a place – it is about connecting with a community while learning new skills. Activities are seasonal, varied, educational and always meaningful. Some examples include:

  • Dry stone wall repair
  • Archaeological surveys & excavations
  • Scrub removal from important habitats and archaeological features
  • Coastal clean-ups
  • Graveyard recording
  • Seed collection
  • Landscape maintenance for bats and butterflies

By working closely together with those who know the Burren best – farmers, landowners and experts – we ensure our actions respect local traditions and land use. Researchers provide valuable insights into the ecology and archaeology of the region, while collaboration with the NPWS ensures our work aligns with national conservation goals, regulations and conservation best practices.
