‘People, Livestock and Landscape in the 1930s Burren: Sustaining Holistic Relationships’
with Anne Byrne
14th March, 2018
8.30pm @ Tubber Village Hall
The unique Burren landscape owes much of its character to its long agricultural history, and the Burrenbeo Trust March Tea Talk promises to be a fascinating exploration of the lives of our forebears. In the 1930s, Harvard scholars Arensberg and Kimball visited the area as part of the Harvard Irish Mission, and interviewed local families. This talk investigates their original manuscripts, recalling the farming and laboring lives of a previous generation, their land and their animals, while considering what endures to this day. Anne Byrne is Senior Lecturer at the NUI Galway School of Political Science and Sociology, who specialises in the early 20th century and has a long-standing interest in the everyday history of individual and community life.
The kettle will be on from 8pm if anyone would like to join us for a cup of tea beforehand. This event is open to everyone; however it is free for Burrenbeo Trust Members and we ask for a suggested €5 donation from non-members. For more information please email [email protected] or phone 091 638096.
