As the year turns after seasonal festivities, what’s better than getting out into the fresh air? Join us on Sunday 7th January 2017 to welcome in the New Year and meet in the outdoors. As we are still in midwinter, the walk will start at 1pm to ensure safe return in daylight hours. The walk will be led by local farmer John Marrinan.
As befits its title, this walk will be strenuous and requires an average to good level of fitness, more than 5km in distance and taking in some rough terrain. Although not very high, the ground can be difficult in wet conditions and will require a level of confidence walking on limestone. The reward is an exhilarating exploration of the Central Burren plateau, taking in ancient cattle routes, limestone pavement and views over the mosaic of farms, woods and hills that make up the Burren landscape. After all of this, a hot cup of tea will surely be welcome, and will kindly be provided for a donation.
You will need good walking boots or shoes, warm waterproof clothes, hats & gloves etc. In addition, it’s a good idea to bring along a hot drink and snacks to keep up your energy levels. As with all of our popular walks, this walk is open to Burrenbeo Trust Members; if you’d like to join the Trust, see our membership page here. In case of bad weather which may affect the walk please check our website or Facebook page for the latest updates. For more information please email [email protected] or phone 091 638096.
