Burren Visitor Entertainment Alternatives

Aside from the aforementioned forms of entertainment to be found in the Burren, there are a number of alternatives available as well, including writers groups, Art courses, Bridge clubs, Photographic societies and card games. Though these alternatives might take a little longer to seek out, they often prove to be worthwhile diversions on a visit to the region.

The Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan provides a rich array of entertainment during summer months from Public Lectures to Art Openings, Educational Courses to Music and Poetry recitals. Look out for details in local papers and on message boards in local shops. The nearby Holywell Centre also has a number of interesting events, including a Film Club.

Music workshops are held throughout the region, especially in summer, with Kinvara or Doolin particularly good places to start. Venues such as Glencolumkille House near Carran have occasional musical events in their sublime surroundings. Festivals held in the Burren include the Cuckoo Festival (April) and Crinniu na Mbad (August) in Kinvara, Burren in Bloom festival in Ballyvaughan (May), the Burren Festival (August) in Carran and the Cooley-Collins festival (September) in Gort.
