Burren Visitor Entertainment

Though many people travel to Ireland every year to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Emerald Isle, most also hope to explore our internationally renowned culture and hospitality. A visit to the Burren is a rewarding experience in this regard, with most visitors surprised that the broad range of entertainment to be enjoyed in the region doesn’t receive as much recognition as the Burren’s natural and cultural wonders.

Clare in general is known as one of the best counties in Ireland to enjoy traditional music and dance, from the legendary seisiuns at Doolin to the jigs and reels of the famous Kilfenora Ceili band, both of which may be enjoyed on a trip to the Burren. The town of Lisdoonvarna hosted an internationally renowned music festival or fleadh, made famous by songwriter Christy Moore, musician Sharon Shannon hails from Ruan, just on the southern edge of the Burren.

There are pubs galore in every town - even the smallest village has a pub or two to complement the church, school and post-office – and many of these pubs host excellent music sessions during the summer months. The combination of music, dance, drink and conservation all make for a heady mix of entertainment or craic.

In terms of sport there is plenty to do: world famous golf links are found at Lahinch and Doonbeg, while in terms of spectator sport its hard to beat Gaelic hurling and football, games of which may be seen throughout the Burren, usually over the weekend.
