Farm Heritage Tours
Explore the landscape with the people who know it best - Farm Heritage Tours are a group of farmers who have come together to interpret the land and promote Burren traditions. Burren Farmers have inherited an ancient and unique system that links them directly to pre-historic Burren farmers. These farmers practice a tried and true tradition dictated by the landscape and are passionate about their role in its conservation.
By joining them on their walks you will learn how nature, culture and farming have shaped the Burren as you see it today. You will be participating in an ecotourism experience that supports this farmimg co-op, contributes to the local economy, supplements farm incomes and help farmers continue the farming practices that are so vital for the conservation of the Burren.
Six of the nine farms are situated in the burren an area famous for its limestone carst landscape. Many tourists visit the Burren each year but miss out on some of the really special places. These areas are known only to the landowners .Some areas of the Burren remain unchanged since the presence of the first farmer and are regarded as prehistoric landscapes fossilised in time. The area looks as it does because of the agricultural activitites that have been carried out by the farmers down through the ages
Farm Heritage Tours offer 1 tour per day, starting at 2.00 pm and lasting approximately 2 hours. Their belief is that there is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothing. Walking gear essential.
