Vision & Objectives

OPENING EYES TO THE LIVING BURREN

Burrenbeo is ireland's very first landscape charity. We are a multidimensional resource for the Burren region.  Our function is to promote and support the sustainable management and use of  this unique landscape and heritage in an accessible, inclusive and effective manner.

  • Appreciating A Diverse Heritage:
Burrenbeo promotes local and global  education and awareness with regard to the Burren. In particular we acknowledge and support the positive contribution of the local farming community to the rich and diverse heritage of the region.

  • Awareness Building
Burrenbeo engages the young by creating awareness of our Living Landscapes through utilisation, experiential learning and outdoor activities

  • Visitor Management
Burrenbeo contributes to improved visitor management and enhanced visitor experience in the Burren, through the provision of stimulating, high quality, globally accessible information. In doing so, Burrenbeo promotes the Burren as a haven for Eco-tourism, supporting  'Living by Heritage'  a business ecology that doesn't 'green wash'  but does offer authentic experiences for  the visitor while also protecting the very resource that brings visitors here in the first place.

  • Conservation Volunteers
Burrenbeo founded and continues to support Ireland's fastest growing conservation volunteer group,  Burren Conservation Volunteers harnesses the efforts of local and visiting volunteers by reinforcing the fact that we can all play a part and become custodians of this unique Landscape.

  • A Long-Term Vision For The Burren
Burrenbeo has recently proposed and is leading the call for a Burren Charter.  This proposal sets out a vision for the Burren and lists the primary objectives necessary for the management of this region - social, environmental and economic. The proposal model also recommends the measures and resources required to meet the objectives and to fully realise a collective vision for the Burren, its people and their place.
