Eco-Beo Testimonies
Comments from children who have completed the Ecobeo programme including Oranmore School who undertook the Ecobeo programme in 2011.
Students "When Macdara said his dad used to work in the Burren and that he asked that some people come in and talk to us about the Burren I had no interest in it. Then a lady named Brigid came in and talked about what is the Burren. Then a man named Dr. Ronan Hennessy came in and taught me how to find fossils in the rocks and that there is acid in rain and that it can burn holes in the rocks. Then another lady named Zena Hoctor came in to talk about archaeology and history. I enjoyed seeing this on the field trip. The other man named Eugene Lambe came in and talked about the music and culture in the Burren it was awesome I didn't want him to leave! Then Brigid came back in with a new lady named Sarah and they showed us insects in the woods. Then a man named Dr.Brendan Dunford talk about farming after I really cared about the farming usually I don't like farming, but I had interest in this. On the day of the school tour I was so excited about it that I couldn't really sleep. When I got in the bus I couldn't wait to get off and see the wedge tomb. Now I am an expert on Burren along with my class".

" I started listening and I found out that the Burrn was this amazing place where lots of people went to admire. With rare beautiful flowers and lots of monuments which are nowhere else in the whole world are here near us". Thomas O'Dowd. Aged 10

"All the tutors were excellently prepared, pitched their content at a level the children understood, came laden with resources and beautifully presented powerpoints. I enjoyed each lecture immensely and the follow up activities."

"My favourite part of the Ecobeo course was the lecture on Farming and Conservation in the Burren with Dr Brendan Dunford. It was my favourite because eventhough I live on a farm I still learned a lot and Brendan made it easy for us to understand
I loved it when a geologist, Ronan, came in to talk about the rocks of the Burren. We learned how the rain dissolves and the limestone were formed. He showed us some fossils and then we walked down to the shore to find some different rocks. It was great to be outside and learning about the Burren. "

"Thank you Ecobeo – I learnt lots and have much more interest and knowledge on the Burren than ever before! "
Teacher Fanore School Ecobeo 2011
"We loved learning the information on the farming methods and their relevance. The children have been asking questions about this since. And we especially loved the culture session with Eugene Lambe, learning about all the characters from the region. Even though it is not that long ago, it encouraged the children to learn from these people and their methods of storytelling. This course is extremely beneficial to the children. It fosters an interest and appreciation of the ‘place’ where they live from a young age. Hence they will have a connection to the Burren and are able to discuss issues with their peers and parents. It is so rewarding to see the learning that took place, we appreciate the commitment of the Trust to carry this out. "
