ReFarm

A future where every Irish farm helps build thriving nature, healthy communities, and resilient landscapes

Investing in nature. Supporting Irish farmers.

We scale nature-friendly farming in Ireland by funding and supporting farmers to restore biodiversity, improve ecosystems, and create measurable impact – in partnership with farmers, businesses, public bodies, and researchers.

What is ReFarm?

We support farmers to deliver nature-friendly actions

In the right place, these actions are proven to boost biodiversity, improve water retention, create habitat and strengthen landscape resilience. ReFarm enables them – through targeted advice and funding – to implement small but potentially high-impact projects on their land, including:

  • Wildlife ponds
  • Mixed-species hedgerows
  • Woodland copses
  • Species-rich grassland management
  • A flexible “Farmer’s Choice” option

These actions are proven to boost biodiversity, improve water retention, create habitat and strengthen landscape resilience.

We pay farmers directly and simply

Once a farmer completes an agreed action, ReFarm pays them immediately, and with a minimum of fuss, from funding raised. We track actions, verify delivery and report outcomes back to funders.

In this pilot phase, we are testing what works best: the most reliable specifications, the most efficient payment processes, and the most scalable measures.

We also incentivise the optimal design and ongoing management of habitats created, by using simple scorecards. Completed annually by farmers (with a proportion verified by the ReFarm team), these scorecards reflect habitat quality and are used to calculate a ‘result-based payment’: the better the habitat, the greater the dividend!

We are building a model designed to scale nationally

Farmers get paid to restore nature. Investors receive verified outcomes. Nature benefits.

Our blended-finance model brings together businesses, philanthropic funders and the public sector. Through our pilots, we’re refining an approach that’s simple for farmers, credible for investors, and scalable across Ireland.

The goal: any farmer who wants to invest in nature can access funding. Any business committed to nature restoration can invest with confidence.
